Wood-burning stove likely caused house fire in Jefferson Twp.

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) – Authorities say the cause of a house fire in Jefferson Township on Sunday morning appears to be connected to a wood-burning stove.

At 4:50 a.m., township police received a report of a structure fire located on East Shawnee Trail, police said.

When the officer arrived, the home was engulfed in flame and smoke. All residents were out of the home, police said.

The fire was brought under control at about 9:00 a.m. and no one was injured, police said.

Assisting Jefferson Township Fire Company 1 & 2 was the Jefferson Rescue Squad, Mt. Arlington Fire, Sparta Fire, Roxbury Fire, Randolph Fire and Picatinny Fire.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit responded and the investigation into the fire is continuing.
