MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) – Three people were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash on Friday.
At 5:31 p.m., township police responded to the intersection of Route 206 and Mooney Road for the report of a traffic accident with injuries, police said.
When officers arrived, they observed a 2001 green Toyota and a 2013 white Ford off the northbound side of the roadway, police said.
An early investigation determined that the Toyota was making the left turn from Route 206 south onto Mooney Road, and the Ford was traveling north on Route 206 in the right lane of travel, police said.
The Toyota made the left turn and was struck on the passenger side by the Ford. The driver of the Toyota was identified as Chintal H. Shah, 18, of Parsippany, NJ, and the driver of the Ford was identified as Catherine R. Edelman, 67, of Middletown, NJ, police said.
Shah was standing outside and inside of the Toyota was an 18-year-old female injured in the front passenger seat and a second 18-year-old female injured in the rear seat of the vehicle, police said.
The front seat passenger was extricated from the vehicle and treatment was rendered for significant injuries. The rear seat passenger was also treated for significant injuries. Both passengers were airlifted from the scene by Atlantic Air One medevac, police said.
Shah was transported to Morristown Medical Center by Atlantic EMS for evaluation. Edelman and a 20-year-old female in her vehicle were not injured in the crash.
The Mt. Olive Police were assisted in the accident investigation by the Morris County Sheriff’s Department CID and The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit. The Flanders Fire Department, Atlantic EMS and paramedics from St. Clare’s Hospital assisted at the scene.
