WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) – A 66-year-old Belvidere man was attacked by a coyote Wednesday morning while walking his dogs.
At 11:20 A.M., the man was with two other adults, walking their dogs on the Columbia Trail near Fairview Avenue in Long Valley, police said.
A coyote appeared from the woods and attacked the man, biting him on the buttocks and right calf. The man was able to grab a nearby stick to defend himself and incapacitated the coyote, police said.
Officers from the Morris County Park Police Department arrived on-scene, euthanized the coyote and requested medical attention for the male, police said.
The man refused transportation to a hospital and stated he would respond on his own for testing, treatment, and/or further observation, police said.
The Animal Control Officer was requested and arrived to collect the coyote, where it will be submitted to the State to test for rabies, police said.
