HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) – A Union County man was sent to jail after he allegedly punched, placed his hands around the victim’s neck and strangled the victim at a senior housing complex on Wednesday.
At 7:02 a.m., town police responded to the Hackettstown Senior Housing complex, located at 681 Willow Grove St, in reference to an assault with a knife.
Through a police investigation, they determined that Wolter Andreitchuk, 21, of Union, NJ punched, placed his hands around the victim’s neck, and strangled the victim. Another individual in the apartment Dillan Metz, 20, of Randolph, NJ grabbed a knife in an attempt to stop Andreitchuk from assaulting the victim, police said.
Andreitchuk then grabbed the knife and that’s when he received lacerations to his hand, police said.
The victim was transported to Hackettstown Medical Center for evaluation. Police didn’t release any information about the victim.
The victim and the two males were at the apartment complex visiting a resident, police said.
A further investigation revealed that Andreitchuk took approximately $5,000.00 worth of assorted jewelry from a jewelry box that belonged to the owner of the apartment. He allegedly concealed it inside a sock and put it in his coat pocket, police said.
Metz had a NJ wanted person warrant out of the Morris County Prosecutors office and the original offense was for third degree property theft. He also had a $350.00 Dover municipal court criminal warrant, a $500.00 Wayne municipal court criminal warrant, a $1,000.00 Mount Olive Twp municipal court criminal warrant and a $500.00 Union municipal court traffic warrant. He was then turned over to the Morris County Prosecutors office.
Andreitchuk was charged with third degree aggravated assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and third degree theft by unlawful taking. He was lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility.
Assisting at the scene was the Hackettstown Detective Bureau, Hackettstown First Aid and Rescue Squad and St Clare’s Paramedics.
