HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – Hackettstown Medical Center, which is part of the Atlantic Health System, donated a case of Narcan to the Hackettstown Police Department at Thursday night’s town council meeting.
“We are thankful for the generous donation and the partnership we have with Hackettstown Medical Center/Atlantic Health System,” Hackettstown Police Sgt. Darren Tynan said.
Narcan, also known as Naloxone, is an opioid antagonist drug used to reverse overdoses of heroin and other opiate-based narcotics.
“Hackettstown Medical Center is committed to partnering with our community to help save the lives of our neighbors who are struggling with drug addiction. Working within our community’s network of agencies and professionals, we hope to facilitate medical intervention and improve access to treatment and recovery support. HMC is proud to continue to strive to make a positive difference in the quality of life for individuals, families and our entire community,” said Jim Furgeson, Chief Development Office, Foundation for Hackettstown Medical Center.
“We maintain Narcan in our patrol vehicles and since we are usually first to arrive on the scene of an overdose, it can be administered immediately. Minutes could be the difference between life and death,” Tynan said.
On Tuesday, June 17, 2014, Gov. Chris Christie expanded the Narcan pilot program to all 21 counties in the state of New Jersey.
