SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Two Sussex County residents are facing drug charges after 263 wax folds containing suspected heroin was recovered by police officers in Sparta Township Sunday morning.

At 12:38 a.m., police stopped a 2004 Dodge for a burned out headlight and non-functioning license plate lights, Sgt. Dennis Proctor said.

The officer approached the driver, Jonathan F. Wecht, 47, of Vernon, and after speaking with him, the officer suspected Wecht might possibly be under the influence of a narcotic, Proctor said.

After further investigation and speaking with the female passenger of the vehicle, Brianne H. Lutz, 34, of Newton, informed the officer of heroin hidden in the vehicle, Proctor said.

The officer retrieved 263 wax folds containing heroin that was hidden in the vehicle’s fuse box. Heroin was also discovered in Lutz’s purse, Proctor said.

Wecht was charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a prescription legend drug, maintenance of lamps, failure to inspect, cracked windshield and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle.  He was released pending a court date.

Lutz was charged with possession of heroin, hindering (for originally providing a false name to the officer) and possession of drug paraphernalia.  She was turned over to the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office for an outstanding warrant and has a pending court date in Sparta.
