HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – An alleged drunk Hackettstown man found out that a cigarette and a Weiss Markets discount card do not pass as identification in the state of New Jersey.
On Sunday at 2:28 a.m., a town police officer was flagged down by a person in the parking lot of Bea McNally’s, located at 109 Grand Ave, for a report of an intoxicated male, police said.
The officer observed a man in a vehicle and he had lacerations on his eye, lip and hand area, police said.
The officer requested the man to provide identification. He first handed the officer a cigarette and then handed the officer a Weiss Markets discount card, police said.
The man eventually handed the officer identification and he was identified as Kris Freund, 64, of Hackettstown, NJ. While the officer was speaking with Freund, the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. A witness advised the officer that the male fell out of the vehicle, police said.
Freund was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breathe test, careless driving, unlicensed driver and failure to exhibit registration card. He was released pending a court appearance.
Assisting at the scene was the Hackettstown Rescue Squad.
