WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Passaic County man is accused of stealing 38 cans of baby formula worth more than $1,000.

Washington Township police say that on Thursday, January 19 at 7:28 p.m., police responded to Target for a shoplifting complaint.

Through a preliminary investigation it was determined that on January 16 a man was observed entering the store and removing baby formula without paying. It was also learned that the man utilized a full size Rubbermaid plastic storage container to hid 38 cans of baby formula valued at $1,063.62. He then placed the plastic lid on the container and exited the store.

Police collected additional information prior to leaving Target and the investigation was turned over to Washington Township Police Department Detective Bureau.

On February 3, 2017 detectives responded to Passaic County Correctional Facility to interview Alexander Wehmeyer, 26, of Paterson, NJ who they had developed information as a person of interest for the shoplifting incident.

At the conclusion of the detective’s interview it was confirmed Wehmeyer shoplifted the baby formula and he was charged with shoplifting.

Wehmeyer was returned to the custody of Passaic County Correctional Facility and has a pending court appearance in Morris County Superior Court.
