MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Three people from Pennsylvania were arrested last Monday in connection with a retail theft and return scam at Walmart.

At 4:01 p.m. on February 13, township police were called to the Walmart, located on Route 57, for an alleged shoplifting that had occurred earlier with the suspects having already left the area.

According to police, two males were observed concealing items under their clothing before leaving the store without paying and then met up with a female in the parking lot.

The female then entered the store with the merchandise in an attempt to return the items for a $200.04 gift card. The return was refused due to her identification being tampered with. She then returned with one of the males who provided his identification and was issued the gift card, police said.

The gift card was cancelled once loss prevention became aware of the incident and the three parties returned to the store the next day to question why the card was not working. Police were called and officers located two of them in the store and one waiting in their vehicle, police said.

Amy L. Ahrens, 37, of Pocono Summit, PA and Andrew R. Widmer, 41, of Cresco, PA were charged with conspiracy, theft by deception, and possession of an altered government document. Ronald Ahrens, 45, of Pocono Summit, PA was charged with shoplifting and conspiracy.

All three were lodged in the Warren County Jail.
