MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (AP) — A former top meteorologist is calling out Gov. Chris Christie over his displeasure about high snow forecasts that failed to materialize.
The Republican governor called the storm a “big underperformer” and said he’s had his fill with the National Weather Service after the last seven-and-a-half years.
Gary Szatkowski, the former chief meteorologist in the NWS’ Mount Holly office, tells The Philadelphia Inquirer he expected a more “responsible perspective” from Christie. He cited an “outstanding forecast” during Superstorm Sandy and the “disastrous” way the information was used.
Acting NWS chief Joe Miketta acknowledged the accumulation forecasts were overdone. But he says other forecasts, including precipitation amounts and coastal flooding, were verified.
