HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A pet dog was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Hackettstown Wednesday afternoon.
At 4:26 p.m. town police responded to West Moore St in reference to a vehicle that struck a dog and then left then scene, police said.
When officers arrived on scene, witnesses advised the officers that a white or light colored Toyota Tacoma with black rims struck a collie and then left, police said.
The dog was deceased at the scene, police said.
A vehicle matching the description was later located at a residence on Rockport Rd and the officer observed evidence of the impact located on the vehicle, police said.
A police investigation revealed that George Dorman Jr., 53, of Mansfield Twp, NJ was travelling on West Moore St, struck the dog and then left the area, police said.
Dorman was charged with failure to report after hitting a domestic animal and leaving the scene of an accident. He was released pending a court appearance.
Assisting at the scene was the Hackettstown Animal Control Officer.
