HOPATCONG BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County)  – A Morris County man is facing a shoplifting charge after stealing $3.00 worth of jumbo iced honey buns from an Hopatcong Quick Chek.

On Wednesday, February 20 at 8:56 p.m., borough police responded to the Quick Chek for a man stealing three jumbo iced honey buns. The suspect then ran out of the store and could not be located by police.

An employee identified the suspect as Brian Franklin, 20, of Rockaway, NJ. The employee knew his name because she went to high school with him, police said.

The officer still watched the video from Quick Chek and the video confirmed that Franklin shoplifted, police said.

The officer kept following up with Franklin’s friends and family. The officer finally located Franklin three weeks later in Rockaway, police said.

Franklin was arrested and charged on Sunday for shoplifting. He was later released pending a court appearance.
