Governor Chris Christie proposes spending $13.8 billion on education and that’s about 39 percent of the state budget. It includes more than $9 billion in direct support to school districts. But about 85 percent of the state’s school districts wouldn’t see any increase in direct state aid because most of the new money Christie added this year goes to pension and debt service payments.
