HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Hackettstown man who was a wanted fugitive refused to answer the door and used dumbbells to prevent police from entering the apartment on Monday evening.
At 10:59 p.m., town police responded to an apartment on the 100 block of Mountain Ave to arrest Jeffrey Moreira, 26, on an active NJ Wanted Person warrant. The NJ Wanted Person warrant was issued by the Warren County Prosecutors Office and the original offense was for dangerous drugs, police said.
Once officers were outside the apartment, they observed lights on and heard Moreira speaking on the phone, police said.
The officers knocked on the apartment door for nearly an hour but Moreira refused the officers commands to open the door, police said.
The officers then spoke to the owner of the apartment and gave the officers a key to gain entry. The officers attempted to open the door but found the door to be barricaded with several dumbbells. Moreira then attempted to re-lock the door., police said.
The officers finally gained entry and took Moreira into custody, police said.
Moreira was charged with obstructing administration of law and resisting arrest. He was released on the Hackettstown charges pending a court appearance and was then turned over to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
