MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Two Hackettstown residents are facing theft by deception charges following an incident at the Mansfield Township Walmart.

On Friday at 1:43 p.m., township police responded to Walmart on the report of a female being detained by loss prevention, police said.

Police determined that Lauren Capalbo, 27, allegedly returned two items valued at $89.42 that were taken from the store just prior to the return, police said.

An investigation revealed that Shane Ultimo, 21, allegedly placed the items in a bag and left them on a shelf for Capalbo to return for a gift card, police said.

Additional video footage showed Capalbo making two fraudulent returns on March 13 in the amounts of $88.96 and $80.01, police said.

Capalbo was charged with two counts of theft by deception. Ultimo was charged with one count of theft by deception and driving while suspended. They were both released pending a court appearance.

On April 1, Capalbo returned to the Walmart after being issued a no trespass order. She was issued a summons for defiant trespass, police said.
