Woman injured after car crashes into tree, bursts into flames in Washington Twp. (PHOTOS)

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – One person was injured after her car crashed into a tree and caught fire Thursday afternoon.

Township Police received a notification of a motor vehicle crash with injuries at 2:39 p.m. in the area of 439 Naughright Road, police said.

When officers arrived, they located a 2007 Red Honda Fit that struck a tree and burst into flames.

The 53-year-old female driver was traveling north on Naughright Rd and for unknown reasons ran off the roadway. The driver had already been removed from the vehicle by several passing motorist, police said. The name of the driver was not released.

The Long Valley First Aid Squad transported the driver to Benedict Cucinella where she was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center by the New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit, police said.

The Washington Township Fire Companies along with New Jersey Forrest Fire arrived on scene and extinguished both the vehicle and woods that were on fire, police said.

Naughright Rd was closed for about three hours between Arrowhead Rd and Jackie Dr.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by Sgt. James Burns of the Washington Township Emergency Services Unit along with the Morris County Prosecutors Office Vehicular Homicide Unit and the Morris County Sheriff’s Department.
