HOPATCONG BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex woman is facing numerous charges after she allegedly set fire on pavement to keep her feet warm and caused $1,500.00 worth of damage.
On April 3, a police officer responded to Extra Storage, located on Sparta Road, for a report of someone who lit fires the day before, police said.
When the officer arrived, he saw six different areas on the pavement where fires had been set. A video surveillance showed a female who used a fuel can start these fires, police said.
On April 2, an officer responded to Sniffens trucking, just down the road from the storage facility, for a woman who was found in the parking lot with no shoes, cold and wet. The female was identified as Vickie Cofrancesco, 39, of Sparta and she was taken to the hospital for hypothermia.The officer determined that it was the same female seen in the surveillance video.
Cofrancesco stated to police that she had been in the woods at night riding on a quad with a male. The male stopped the quad and gave her a weird look. She got scared and ran off, police said.
While walking in the dark she saw the lights of the storage facility and climbed up a hill to get onto the property. She found a fuel can and lit some fires to keep her feet warm, police said.
Confrancesco then headed to Sparta Road after she heard cars and walked to Sniffens Trucking where she was found by the owner, police said.
Cofrancesco was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree arson and criminal mischief. She was released pending a court appearance. The price to repair the damage caused by the fires was $1500.00.
