N.J. woman accused of dumping Sussex County woman’s body in Rt. 22 median in custody

BRANCHBURG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – A Ringwood woman sought in connection with allegedly dumping a Hopatcong woman’s body in a Route 22 median has been arrested, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, and Branchburg Township Chief of Police David Young announced on Thursday.

Nicole Barbour, 26, was wanted for unlawful disposing and concealing of Ashley M. Castro’s body in Branchburg Township on April 5.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit along with detectives from the Branchburg Township Police Department, and Special Agents from the FBI, Franklin Township office, responded to the Red Carpet Inn, located in New Brunswick, and placed defendant Barbour under arrest.

Barbour has been charged with second-degree disturbing human remains. She was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.

On April 5 at 1:22 p.m., Branchburg Township Police responded to a call reporting the discovery of a deceased female located in the center median of Route 22 near Route 28, Robertson said.

As a result of the investigation, detectives identified Barbour as an accomplice and assisted David DeSantos, 32, of Henryville, Pennsylvania, who has been charged, with disposing and concealing of Castro’s body.

The investigation additionally revealed that during the early morning hours on Wednesday, March 29, DeSantos and Barbour moved Castro from a Route 22 motel and concealed her body in the center median amongst bushes, trees, and high grass, Robertson said.

Castro’s cause and manner of death are pending by the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, Robertson said.
