NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Hackettstown woman was sentenced to three year of probation after pleading guilty to attempting to obtain a controlled dangerous substance by fraud, the prosecutor’s office said in a news release Thursday.
Brienne Fitzsimmons, 30, was sentenced by Judge William J. McGovern III at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on April 21.
On November 12, 2016 at 2:19 p.m., Stop and Shop Pharmacy contacted the Sparta Police to report a fraudulent prescription being called in, Sparta Police said.
The pharmacy advised police that Fitzsimmons was to pick up the prescription later in the day. At 5:00 p.m., the pharmacy called back to report the individual had arrived for the fraudulent prescription, police said.
Police responded to the Stop and Shop and met with Fitzsimmons, and the officers confirmed with the pharmacist that the prescription was indeed fraudulent, police said.
Fitzsimmons pled guilty on February 14, 2017, to third-degree attempt to obtain a controlled dangerous substance by fraud.
In addition to probation, Fitzsimmons must submit to a Treatment Assessment Services for the Courts evaluation and follow any and all recommendations made from same, attend AA/NA meetings two times per week, complete her treatment program, submit a DNA sample at her own expense, and pay fines and fees totaling $1,205.00.
