Cops: Man flees scene of crash, charged with DWI

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A man who allegedly ran from his vehicle after crashing was charged with driving while intoxicated Monday evening.

Robert Groover, whose age and hometown were not released, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to keep right.

Township police were call to the single vehicle crash on Old Farmers Rd at 9:28 p.m. While police responded to the scene, further information was received that the operator of the vehicle was seen running from the vehicle and was bleeding from the face, police said.

When police arrived, the officer was able to locate the driver of the vehicle at a nearby residence, police said.

A subsequent investigation determined that Groover was exhibiting signs of being impaired, police said.

Groover was transported to Hackettstown Medical Center by Long Valley First Aid for a medical evaluation, police said.

Groover has a pending court date in Washington Township Municipal Court.
