HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Warren County man allegedly under the influence of medication flipped his vehicle after he looked at his phone and tried to grab his coffee Friday afternoon.
At 1:03 p.m. town police responded to Route 604 near Stephens State Park in reference to an overturned motor vehicle crash. When the officer arrived on scene, the driver was out of the vehicle and being attended to by paramedics, police said.
Through an investigation it was determined that James Cavanagh, 56, of Blairstown, NJ was travelling south on Route 604 in a 2016 Ford van. As Cavanagh looked at his cell phone and grabbed his coffee, his vehicle crossed the center line, hit a small concrete structure alongside the road, overturned, then hit a traffic sign and overturned again, police said.
A further investigation revealed that Cavanagh was impaired due to medication, police said.
Cavanagh was charged with driving while under the influence, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. He was released pending a court appearance.
