HOPATCONG BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – A Hopatcong man is facing a shoplifting charge after he allegedly stole three packs of SweeTARTS on Saturday morning.
At 2:50 a.m., police responded to the Quick Chek on a report of a shoplifter. When police arrived, they were told by the night manager that Harry Stickle, 24, and his mother bought milk and cigarettes. The manager then saw Stickle put three packs of SweeTARTS in his pocket, which had a total value of $4.14, police said.
Police went to Stickle’s home, where he was observed getting out of the passenger side of the vehicle. He allowed the police officers to search him and his bag but police didn’t locate the candy, police said.
Harry denied stealing anything but an officer then looked under the passenger side of the car and located the three packs of SweeTARTS. Harry was charged and later released, police said.
Quick Chek employee advised police to tell the entire Stickle family that if they come back into the store they will be charged with trespassing, police said.
