Memorial Day Weekend Parades and Events

HUNTERDON COUNTY :

  • High Bridge – The Memorial Day parade will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 27th at C.K. Hoffman Veterans Memorial Park on West Main Street.
  • Flemington – A parade led by the Hunterdon Veterans Alliance will take place starting at 10 am on Monday, May 29th starting at Church and Main streets. There will also be a service at the Veterans Monument.
  • Readington Township – will hold a Memorial Day parade beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 29th at the Whitehouse Mall, continuing south on Route 523 to the municipal building for a ceremony commemorating fallen service personnel. A community day celebration will take place at Pickell Park with games, hot dogs and soda provided by the township’s Recreation Department.   • Quakertown – The Quakertown Fire Company will hold its 62nd Memorial Day service at the Franklin Township School   starting at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, May 29th. The school is on Quakertown Road off Route 579. The keynote will be given by Tom Keyes, a decorated veteran who served in Iraq. Another highlight will be the presentation of two award-winning essays in the contest held for eighth-graders at the school. Boy Scouts from the township’s Troop 108 will conduct the flag ceremony. The Girl Scouts of Junior Girl Scout Troop 80745 will plant flowers in memory of Franklin Township’s fallen service men. The observance is at the school flagpole and nearby monument to the five Franklin men killed in action in World War II. Everyone is invited back to the firehouse for tours and light refreshments.
  • Frenchtown – The Memorial Day parade will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 29th with a lineup at the Frenchtown Public School field. In past years, the procession, led by the Frenchtown American Legion, stops at the Doughboy statue in front of the school where a wreath is laid, a prayer said and salutes fired. Also in past years, the procession has stopped at the American Legion Hall at Sixth and Harrison streets, with speeches and music by Delaware Valley High School’s Golden Regiment marching band. A wreath was laid, a prayer said and taps played. On the Delaware River bridge, a salute has been fired, and down below, a flower boat launched in memory of sailors lost at sea. An airplane has made a low pass over the bridge and over the last stop in the Frenchtown Cemetery, dropping flowers. Prayers have been offered at the bridge and the cemetery.
  • Glen Gardner – Veterans of Foreign Wars Spruce Run Memorial Post 5119 will hold a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 29th at 179 Main St. A short ceremony will be followed by light refreshments. The post will be awarding four scholarships and the auxiliary will be recognizing three entries in the Patriotic Art Contest.
  • Lambertville – The Memorial Day Parade starts at the corner of North Union and Cherry Streets at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 29th. The parade continues to City Hall, 18 York St., where there will be a short service, before ending at Mary Sheridan Park. Lifelong city resident Norbert Rosso, a decorated Navy veteran, will serve as grand marshal of annual parade. Cliff Heathcote will be guest speaker.
  • Califon – The Recreation Committee presents its 16th annual Califon Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 29th. The parade starts at 11 a.m. on School Street and will feature St. Ann’s of Hampton Pipes and Drums, the 15th New Jersey Volunteers Infantry Company A accompanied by the NJ Field Music Fife and Drum Corps, antique cars, scout troops, and area fire and rescue squads. The parade will proceed down Main Street and will continue to Califon Island Park. In honor of those being remembered, bagpipes will play at the center of the Califon Bridge. A memorial service will held at noon next to the Califon Veterans Memorial. The Voorhees High School Jazz Band will perform the Star Spangle Banner and Taps. While the National Anthem is played, local scouts raise the American flag. The 15th will close the memorial service with a 21-gun salute while everyone pauses for a moment of silence. Califon Fire Company will have food and drinks for purchase after the memorial service. The Kona Ice Truck, Cubberly Band and more will also take part. Community groups and organizations, antique cars and tractors, floats, animals with their owners, musical ensembles and others are encouraged to participate.   • Raritan Township – A memorial service is held in the morning on Monday, May 29th at the Veterans Monument in front of the Raritan Township municipal building.

MORRIS COUNTY:

  • Mt. Olive Township –  on Sunday, May 28th, from 5:00 – 8:00pm at the All Veterans Memorial Complex, Turkey Brook Park, 30 Flanders Road, Flanders there will be a dedication.  This is open to all veterans, families of fallen warriors and sponsors of the AVM.   Also, a Broadway musical highlighting the significance of each monument at the All Veterans Park.  This a historical event. FREE EVENT.  On Monday, May 29th, a Memorial Remembrance Day ceremony will be held from 10:30am – 12:00pm.  This ceremony open to all members of the public.  Public Contact Info: www.allveteransmemorial.org.
  • WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – The Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Washington Township Memorial site in Rock Spring Park will be held on Saturday, May 27th  at noon (Rain or Shine).

WARREN COUNTY: 

  • BLAIRSTOWN – the Givens-Belet Memorial Day Parade steps off Sunday, May 28th after a  memorial service, which will be held in Cedar Ridge Cemetery (across from Tractor Supply on Route 94) beginning at noon. The parade begins at the ceremony at the cemeterry and concludes at Footbridge Park with free refreshments.
  • HACKETTSTOWN – This year’s Memorial Day Parade and Observance is scheduled for Monday, May 29th at 9:30am and will run regardless of weather. The Memorial Day Service will immediately follow at Union Cemetery. All parade participants are invited to the American Legion Post 164, Willow Grove Street for complimentary food and beverages.
  • KNOWLTON TOWNSHIP – the Knowlton Township Historic Commission is hosting a Memorial Day picnic by the river on Monday, May 29th from 1:00 – 3:00pm (rain or shine) at the Ramsaysburg Historic Homestead on Rt 46 at Ramseyburg Road. Bring your favorite covered dish to share and cutlery will be provided and grills will be available.   Informal house and barn tours will be available.  A presentation by historian Dennis Bertland will be given at 2:00pm on”Trade Along the Delaware River”.  For more information 908-475-5352 or www.ramsaysburg.org.
  • LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP –  on Sunday, May 28th, a Memorial Day candlelight ceremony for veterans and first responders begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Veterans Rally Point/Veterans Memorial at Lopatcong Municipal Park in Lopatcong Township. (Park entrance is located next to the Lopatcong Emergency Squad on Belvidere Road). An Honor Bell Ceremony will be conducted by the Lehigh Valley Fleet Reserve Association Branch 115 (Marine, Navy, Coast Guard Veterans). A roll call will include the names of deceased veterans and first responders. A candlelight vigil will be held during the ceremony; white glow sticks will be provided. The Lopatcong Athletic Association will be selling food and soft drinks beginning at 5 p.m. in the Lopatcong Pavilion. A youth baseball and softball game will begin at 4 p.m.  A New Jersey Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter (UH-60) is scheduled to land about 6 p.m. Those wishing to purchase a flag for the Field of Flags can do so for $3 at the pavilion. Bring a lawn chair.
  • PHILLIPSBURG – on Monday, May 29th, Memorial Day parade will kick off from Abbott and South Main Streets at 9 a.m. and will march to Shappell Park for a ceremony. Following the ceremony at Shappell Park, the parade will continue down South Main Street to the free bridge to join members of the Easton parade.
