MOUNT OLIVE, N.J. (Morris County) – A Verizon outage that caused customers to lose service last week in the Drakestown and Sandshore Road areas was not caused by vandalism, according to Verizon Spokesman Raymond McConville.
The cause of the outage was from a tractor trailer hitting and damaging a Verizon cable, McConville said. The location and date of this incident wasn’t immediately available.
At least a dozen customers in the township are currently experiencing an outage from the incident and those customers should be restored tonight, McConville said.
McConville said that Verizon normally has five cases of vandalism a year across their service areas. He said there have been over 100 cases in New Jersey since the strike began over four weeks ago.
It’s unknown how many of those cases, if any, occurred in Warren, Sussex or Morris counties, McConville said.
Verizon customers can report an outage by calling 1-800-837-4966.
