HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – One person was hospitalized following a three vehicle crash Friday morning in Hackettstown.
According to police, Nicholas Perna, 21, of Frenchtown, NJ was driving a 2004 Peterbilt dump truck and was stopped southbound on Route 604 at 9:43 a.m. waiting to make a left hand turn onto Waterloo Valley Rd.
Nicholas Cardone III, 38, of Stanhope, NJ was driving a 2008 Dodge and was stopped behind Perna’s vehicle. Denon Rogers, 27, of Hackettstown, NJ was travelling south on Route 604 in a 2017 Ford and collided into the rear of Cardone’s vehicle which caused Cardone’s vehicle to collide into the rear of Perna’s vehicle, police said.
Cardone was trapped inside his vehicle and the Jaws of Life had to be used to extricate him out of the vehicle. He was airlifted by Atlantic Air 1 to Morristown Medical Center. As of Saturday morning, he was in stable condition, police said.
There were no other injuries reported. Route 604 was closed between Bilby Rd and Continental Dr for approx. 2 hours, police said.
Rogers was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.
