WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A bobcat entered a home in Washington Township and forced the residents to lock themselves in the bathroom Wednesday evening.
At 5:54 p.m., township police responded to a private residence on East Mill Rd for a reported bobcat inside the residence, police said.
Upon the arrival, the officers found the mother and her two young children locked inside the bathroom. They locked themselves in the bathroom after observing the bobcat near the rear back door.
The officers observed the bobcat in the living room located on the first floor of the residence, which did not appear to look sick and/or rabid, police said.
The exterior doors of the residence along with a kitchen window were then opened. After approximately an hour, the bobcat exited the residence through the kitchen window and then ran into the woods, police said.
“At no time was the bobcat in contact with anyone nor was it injured and did not cause any damage to the residence,” police said.
The Washington Township Health Department and the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife were notified.
