Mansfield Twp. police block alleged shoplifter from driving away, 2 charged

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Two woman were charged last month after allegedly shoplifting from the Mansfield Township Walmart.

At 3:43 p.m. on May 31, township police responded to Walmart on a report of two females placing items in their purses, police said in a news release on Thursday.

When police arrived, they waited at the exit of with loss prevention who told them to stop, police said.

Catherine L. Czutak, 34, stopped but Shannon Obrien, 36, of Long Valley, ran to a parked vehicle, police said.

Obrien threw allegedly threw a purse under another vehicle, entered her vehicle, and attempted to back up. She was blocked in by a patrol car and was taken into custody, police said.

Czutak was charged with shoplifting $42.60 worth of merchandise and Obrien was charged with fourth-degree shoplifting $323.83 worth of merchandise.

They were both released pending a court appearance.
