HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) — A Flanders, N.J., man is accused of stealing over forty-five thousand dollars worth of Apple iPad tablets and iPad touch’s from the Mars Chocolate North America Corporate Headquarters in Hackettstown.
The Hackettstown Detective Bureau, on March 31, discovered a suspicious transaction of thirteen iPads that were sold at the Gold Mine (174A Main St) in Hackettstown, according to a news release from police.
An investigation began and it was discovered that Thomas Cefola, 37, of Flanders, NJ, an employee of Mars Chocolate North America, stole sixty Apple iPad tablets with service plans, valued at $750.04 each, from Mars Chocolate North America between October 10, 2014 and March 31, 2016. Cefola then sold them to The Gold Mine for a personal gain. The total value stolen was $45,002.40, police said.
Cefola also ordered, between November 24, 2014 and December 24, 2014, a total of two Apple iPod touch 32GB players, valued at $281.68 each, and then stole them from Mars Chocolate North America. The total value stolen was $563.36, police said.
Cefola was charged on May 19, 2016 with two counts of 3rd degree theft of movable property and was released pending a court appearance.
