HOPE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Five people are safe after the car they were riding in caught fire on I-80 in Hope Township.

The fire began around 3:30 p.m. Saturday on the westbound side near mile marker 11.8.

Fire was coming from a Nissan hatchback’s engine compartment.

The five occupants – four woman and a baby – were safely out and away from the car fire when the Hope Fire Department arrived on scene.

The fire was quickly put out, but the vehicle was destroyed. New Jersey State Police kept the highway open as the fire personnel worked on the flames.
