SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Newton woman Sunday was charged with various drug offenses after she was stopped by police and was allegedly found to be in possession of heroin.
At 2:25 a.m., a township police officer observed a 1994 Jeep traveling north on Route 15 fail to maintain the lane of travel. The vehicle abruptly swerved from the right lane into the left lane and then swerved back into the right lane, police said.
The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Samantha J. Benson, 29, police said.
Multiple wax folds used to hold heroin was observed by the officer protruding from Benson’s purse. She was removed from the vehicle and she admitted to having assorted drug paraphernalia in her vehicle, police said.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and 15 wax folds containing heroin were discovered along with over 400 empty wax folds. Four hypodermic syringes were also discovered along with several prescription pills and assorted drug paraphernalia, police said.
Benson was charged with possession of CDS, possession of hypodermic syringes, possession of a prescription drug without having a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain lane and CDS in a motor vehicle.
Benson was released pending a court date.
