HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – Not only is it dangerous, but it could also cost you. The Hackettstown Police Department issued a simple reminder to area motorists on the police departments Facebook page Tuesday.
“With recent road closures in the Hackettstown area, drivers drove around the road closures and we wanted to remind the motoring public to obey road closures,” Hackettstown Police Sgt. Darren Tynan said.
If the sign says “Road Closed”, please don’t ignore it. If there are barricades, cones, flares or an emergency vehicle blocking a roadway, please don’t ignore it, Tynan said.
“The road is closed for a reason and it’s for the safety of everyone,” Tynan said.
We don’t close roads for no reason and we don’t close roads to inconvenience you – the driver, the road is closed for safety reasons. When going around a road closure, you’re putting yourself and all emergency personnel at risk.
We are genuinely sorry if it inconveniences you, if it makes you late, if you missed an appointment or if you have to take the long way around. We are just looking out for everyone’s safety.
A ticket can be issued to drivers who want to drive around a road closure, Tynan said.
This friendly reminder is brought to you by the folks who have to work in a road closed area, said on the Facebook post.
