NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Budd Lake man was sentenced after pleading guilty to assault by auto, possession of CDS, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident, the prosecutor’s office said in a news release Monday.
Jason Reis, 29, was sentenced by Judge William J. McGovern III at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on July 14.
On December 9, 2016, in Hopatcong Borough, Reis struck the rear of a vehicle occupied by three individuals pushing it into a vehicle occupied by a single occupant causing pain to all victims and then left the scene. When his motor vehicle was stopped by Patrolman. D. Kern, the defendant was found to be under the influence and in possession of Buprenorphine and Clonazepam, prosecutor’s office said.
Reis was sentenced to 180 days in jail, with credit for 134 days of time served, and three years of probation consecutive to a Morris County sentence. His driver license was ordered suspended for ten years. He was ordered to submit to a Treatment Assessment Services for the Courts evaluation and follow any and all recommendations made from same, submit a DNA sample at his own expense, install Interlock for the duration of his driver license suspension and two years thereafter, pay restitution of $25.00, and pay fines and fees totaling $2,294.00, prosecutor’s office said.
Reis pled guilty on June 8, 2017, to third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, four counts of fourth-degree assault by auto, third offense of driving while intoxicated (third offense) an leaving the scene of an accident.
