Warren County man allegedly assaults Hackettstown cop during drug arrest

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Warren County man is charged with aggravated assault and drug offenses after he was allegedly observed by police weighing and packaging Molly Tuesday evening.

At 6:05 p.m., a town officer was on routine patrol of the Hackettstown High School parking lot on Warren St, when the officer observed a male leaning into a vehicle, police said.

The officer approached Joshua Fortuna, 25, of Phillipsburg, NJ and observed a digital scale on the seat. He was attempting to weigh and package suspected Molly, a drug commonly known as ecstasy, police said.

Fortuna refused to comply with the officers commands and engaged in a physical altercation with the officers. During the altercation he ingested suspected Molly and was elbowing an officer in the face, police said.

The officer did receive minor abrasions, police said.

Fortuna was transported to Hackettstown Medical Center by Hackettstown First Aid & Rescue Squad to get medically cleared, police said.

Fortuna was charged with third-degree possession of Molly, possession of drug paraphernalia, fourth-degree aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, third-degree resisting arrest, fourth-degree hindering, third-degree possession with intent to distribute molly, third-degree possession with intent to distribute molly in a school zone and being under the influence of molly. He was lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility.
