What a sweet way to start the week! Morning Mike had the pleasure if talking with Komao Das, the owner of Das’ Creamery, serving gourmet handmade ice cream, in the Village Green Shopping Center in Budd Lake. After Komao graduated from Rutgers, she then went to culinary school, to study French Technique. She worked at restaurants in New York and Atlanta – but her retired father decided an ice cream shop would make a great second career. After Komao studied making ice cream (there’s lots of chemistry involved) at Penn State, she joined her father in the shop that serves 32 flavors of homemade, handmade gourmet ice cream. Komao says she enjoys using locally sourced ingredients in her ice cream, like New Jersey blueberries and peaches.
Find out for yourself. Check out their Facebook page at Das’ Creamery or call 862-258-3593. They are open seven days a week. Komao said their new website should be up in about two weeks at dascreamery.com.
