DOVER, NJ (Morris County) – Officials are investigating a three-alarm fire that displaced 3 people early Sunday morning.
At 3:14 a.m., a smoke condition was reported by residents inside a single family home located at 40 Thompson Avenue, according to Dover Public Safety Director Daniel DeGroot.
Upon the arrival of first responding police and fire personnel, flames were observed, prompting second and third alarms to go out for assistance from neighboring mutual aid towns, DeGroot said.
The three occupants of the home safely evacuated from the residence; there were no injuries reported. The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes, DeGroot said.
The home is uninhabitable due to the extensive damage. The American Red Cross responded and supplied aid to the victims with food and clothing, DeGroot said.
Assisting Dover were fire departments from Picatinny Arsenal, Rockaway Borough, Rockaway Township, Wharton, Mine Hill, and Randolph responded, while the Denville Fire Department stood by at the Dover firehouse to cover any other calls, DeGroot said.
The Morris County Office of Emergency Management Fire Coordinator also responded to provide necessary assistance, DeGroot said.
Although the official cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Dover Fire Department, it is not deemed suspicious, DeGroot said.
