8-year-old performs Heimlich maneuver to save little brother

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – 8-year-old Sterling Blake was recently honored by the Washington Township Police Department with a life saving award after saving his 22-month-old brother, Grainger, from choking.

On August 2, Sterling was at home when he realized his younger brother was choking on an unknown object.

Sterling quickly assessed the situation and administered the Heimlich maneuver to his brother. This caused a quarter to become dislodged and he began breathing on his own.

Sterling was trained on the Heimlich maneuver by his father, Benjamin Blake, who has been a police officer with the Washington Township Police Department for 4 years.

“Due to Sterling’s quick action that day he saved his brother’s life. JOB WELL DONE!,” police said.
