Morris County–Work was completed today on the replacement of the 117-year-old, single-lane Combs Hollow Road bridge in Mendham Township, and it was re-opened to vehicles today just after 1 p.m.
While the new and wider bridge is open to traffic for the Labor Day weekend, final touches will be completed next week, including railing and guide rail installation. Final milling and paving are will be done on Wednesday

“We are glad to get this bridge project completed in time for the start of the school year, and the busier post-Labor Day work season,’’ said Morris County Freeholder John Cesaro.
“We thank our residents for their patience,’’ Freeholder Cesaro added.
The original and lightly traveled Combs Hollow Road bridge was a small single-span structure with stone masonry substructures. The 16-foot-wide bridge, built about 1900, had average daily traffic of about 200 vehicles.
The new structure is a precast concrete culvert with stone facing. The roadway curb-to-curb width has expanded to two lanes totaling 26 feet. The contractor on the project is Konkus Corporation of Branchburg, which won a bid construction contract for $299,762. The project is financed by county government funds.
