Flanders woman had cocaine, marijuana during traffic stop

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Police charged a Flanders woman they say allegedly had cocaine and marijuana during a traffic stop Thursday evening.

At 9:00 p.m., a township officer observed a driver, Megan Gorrell, 24, of Flanders, NJ, talking on her cell phone as she passed the officer’s patrol car, police said.

After the officer stopped the car and explained what he had observed, Gorrell stated that she was talking to a friend while driving, police said.

As the officer spoke with Gorrell, he detected the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from within the vehicle. When asked about the odor, she stated that she had smoked marijuana earlier at a friend’s house, police said.

A search of the vehicle revealed a small ziplock of suspected cocaine, a multi-colored marijuana pipe, a marijuana grinder and a small glass jar containing suspect marijuana, police said.

Gorrell was charged with cellphone use in moving vehicle, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. She was advised of required court appearance and released without further incident.
