NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Newton man was taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after he was struck by a car.

At 1:22 p.m., Newton police responded to the intersection of Trinity and Moran Street for a report of a pedestrian who was struck by a motorist, Newton Police Lt. Robert Osborn said.

A police investigation determined that Juan Cespedes-Duque, 24, of Dover, NJ was operating a 2007 Acura and was turning left from Moran Street onto Trinity Street eastbound. He allegedly failed to observe Omar Panciso, 35, in the crosswalk and struck him, Osborn said.

Panciso complained of pain to his left hand and was transported to Newton Medical Center by the Newton First Aid Squad, Osborn said.

Cespedes-Duque was issued for careless driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, Osborn said.
