BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Byram police charged a trio of suspects after police say they were allegedly in possession of heroin Tuesday afternoon.

At 2:37 p.m., a township police officer conducted a motor vehicle stop within the township, police said.

While the officer was speaking to the driver, John Seringa of Columbia, NJ, it was observed that the front seat passenger, Gina Seringa of Columbia, NJ, and rear passenger, John Kelly Jr. of Mt. Bethel, PA, appeared to be under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, police said.

Kelly was found to have a traffic warrant and was removed from the vehicle. A search of his person revealed a bag of heroin and two pieces of drinking straw containing a white powdery residue, police said.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of an additional fifty-seven bags of heroin, police said.

All three suspects denied possession of the drugs and were placed under arrest, police said.

John Seringa was charged with suspended NJ license, possession of a suspended license, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and possession of heroin.

Gina Seringa was charged with possession of heroin and under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

Kelly was charged with possession of heroin, possession of a controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia and under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

All three were released with a pending court date.
