BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Four men have been charged after they allegedly destroyed over 25 mailboxes in Byram Township last month.
Joseph Keller and Matthew Helfrich both from Byram, Neil Kelly of Stanhope and Steven Sylvester of Netcong were all charged with criminal mischief.
On October 22 at 3:01 a.m., township police took a report of criminal mischief and made an arrest when a suspect fled from patrols when ordered to stop, police said.
Patrols checked the area and documented numerous mailboxes and landscape items which were damaged. On October 23, numerous reports of criminal mischief were filed by residents, police said.
Over 25 mailboxes were reported destroyed as well as landscape lighting and Halloween decorations, police said.
During the subsequent investigation, police collected physical evidence and were able to identify four suspects, police said.
On Wednesday, Keller, Kelly, Helfrich and Sylvester were charged. They have been released with pending court dates.
