On the Monday edition of the Morning Program, Lucy Hurley stopped by from Home Instead Senior Care, to tell Morning Mike all about the “Be A Santa To A Senior” program. This is the 14th year for this gift-giving and companionship initiative from Home Instead Senior Care of Warren and Hunterdon counties, part of a nationwide effort. Once again this year, this also includes “Be A Santa To A Veteran” and Home Instead has partnered with Veteran’s Haven North in Glen Gardner.
The program starts with local organizations providing the names of needy seniors in the area. Gift tags with a first name and a gift request are placed on Christmas trees and wreaths in various locations. Tags with an American flag or a star are for veterans. You pick up a tag, purchase the wished item on the tag and return it, unwrapped, with the tag attached. Home Instead volunteers will wrap the gifts and deliver them in time for Christmas.
