Morris County man charged in alleged assault at County College of Morris

RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Wharton man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted an 18-year-old man last week at County College of Morris.

Anthony Rodriguez, 20, was charged with simple assault.

On November 8, upon the request of campus security, township police responded to County College of Morris for a report of an assault that had occurred earlier in the evening, Detective Lieutenant Christopher Giuliani said.

Police met with security who said that the 18-year-old had been assaulted in the parking lot by an unknown male.  This was not initially reported to security, which became aware of this incident when the victim’s mother contacted them.  Originally, it was reported that several items were taken from the victim during the assault, Giuliani said.

After a police investigation, it was determined that nothing had been taken from the victim during the incident.  It was revealed that the victim and the accused were known to each other, Giuliani said.

The assault appears to have occurred due to a past dispute between the two individuals, Giuliani said.

Rodriguez was released pending a court appearance.
