WHITEHOUSE STATION, NJ (Hunterdon, County) – New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture, Douglas Fisher, joined forces with local agriculturalists at Hionis Greenhouses in Hunderdon County to highlight the fact that these ever-so-popular ornamental crops are grown and sold in our state.

“They have to bring them to a point where they start growing them in June. Now, here we are in December and they’ve been nurtured to the point where they are in full bloom now and it’s a magnificent display,” said Secretary Fisher.

Owner of Hionis Greenhouses, Tim Hionis, says he and his team of horticulturalists work all season to prepare the best crop of Poinsettias that will put smiles on the faces of families throughout the Holiday season.

“It’s a tricky crop. It needs monitoring throughout their whole growth cycle. It’s really a seven day a week growing operation to make sure all of the factors are put together,” said Hionis, as he stood among a sea of outrageous red and white poinsettias.

Secretary Fisher also reminded folks that December 12th will be, “National Poinsetta Day.”
