Woman charged with assault by auto, DWI in Mount Olive Twp. crash

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A 33-year-old Newark woman is facing multiple charges including assault by auto following a motor vehicle accident Sunday morning.

Sanny Silva was charged with assault by auto, DWI, reckless driving, failure to stop, careless driving, obstructed view, failure to provide insurance card, and failure to exhibit vehicle registration.

At 3:21 am, Officer Carletta responded to the intersection of Route 46 and International Drive South for the report of a traffic accident, police said.

When Officer Carletta arrived on scene, he observed a 2004 Ford and a 2006 BMW both disabled in the roadway, police said.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that the 2004 Ford, operated by Silva, allegedly failed to stop at the red traffic signal at the intersection of Route 46 and International Drive South. Silva’s vehicle then proceeded through the intersection and struck the BMW as it made the left turn off of International Drive South onto Route 46 West, police said.

The driver of the BMW sustained injuries and was treated by the Budd Lake Rescue Squad, and transported to Hackettstown Medical Center for evaluation. Silva and her passenger were uninjured in the crash, police said.

Silva was asked to exit her vehicle and perform field sobriety tests. She was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, where she submitted to chemical breath testing, police said.

Silva was released to a sober driver pending a court hearing.
