NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Newton man is facing drug charges after police spotted him allegedly driving while using a cell phone.
Ryan Devine, 38, was charged with third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, drug possession by motor vehicle operator and use of wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle.
On Thursday at 1:57 p.m., Sgt. Michael Monaco observed Devine operating a Ford Focus northbound on Water Street as he was utilizing his cell phone, Newton Police Lieutenant Robert Osborn said.
Devine was stopped on Water Street and Sgt. Monaco observed an empty bag of heroin within the interior of the vehicle, Osborn said.
Officer Justin McCann and his K-9 “Roxi” from the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene and a search revealed a full bag of heroin was found inside the vehicle, Osborn said.
