NEWARK, NJ (Essex County) – NJ Transit trains are close to being on schedule, despite the winter weather. 
The popular mass-transit operation says it’s prepared to manage the first storm of the New Year, by continuously monitoring weather conditions across the Tri-State area.
According to a press release, NJ Transit’s Emergency Operations Center will remain open. Buses, rail services, and light rail services are expected to operate on a regular weekday schedule.
NJ Transit also says in order to provide additional travel options for customers; a system wide cross-honoring is in effect for Thursday, January 4th between NJ Transit and private carrier buses, rail, and light rail services only.
Northwest, NJ commuters traveling in and out of Manhattan should be aware of a recent post on NJ Transit’s website. The post says Amtrack crews will be removing ice from the Hudson River Tunnels between 10 a.m. this morning until 2 p.m. this afternoon. Crews will also be out again removing ice from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. This means NJ Transit trains will operate on a single track during those times.
NJ Transit officials also note that crews have been busy inspecting and winterizing infrastructure, equipment, and stations over the months leading up to winter.
