Hackettstown, Warren Hills and Newton HS students honored by NJ Equine Board (PHOTOS)

NEW JERSEY – Three local teens were among those honored at the 61st Annual 2017 New Jersey Breeders Awards Luncheon that took place on Sunday, January 28 at O’Connor’s American Bar & Grille in Eastampton Township. The top achievers in the state’s equine industry were honored by the New Jersey Equine Advisory Board.

Madeline Crisp, 17, of Great Meadows is a senior at Hackettstown High School and received the New Jersey Equestrian of the Year award. Crisp has been riding competitively since 2008 and was the Appaloosa Horse Club World Champion in Youth Ranch Trail in 2017.

Brittany Smith, 17, of Oxford is a senior at Warren Hills Regional High School and received the New Jersey Agricultural Achievement Award, which included a $500 Scholarship. Smith has been active in 4-H and agriculture for her entire life. She has competed and won many awards in 4-H. Her competition resume includes public speaking contests, dairy judging and showing dairy goats. Contestants must be a New Jersey resident and a high school senior who is planning on pursuing a career in the agriculture field and/or sciences.

Bridget Fajvan of Newton is a sophomore at Newton High School and received the Sara Dubinin Scholarship, which included a $1,000 scholarship. Fajvan is an active FFA member at the high school. This scholarship is presented annually in memory of Sara Dubinin to help 4-H or FFA members pursue their equine activities. Sara, a Sayreville resident, graduated from Cardinal McCarrick High School in South Amboy in 2006.
