HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – The Hackettstown Business Improvement District is honored to present Edward Shellman as the 2018 Grand Marshal of the St Patrick’s Day parade.
Shellman is a forty year resident of Hackettstown, moving here in 1977 from Queens, N.Y. as an AT&T employee. Along with him, Edwards’ wife Flo and son Edward Jr. Later on, he had two more sons Michael & Christopher, both born in Hackettstown.
His Irish roots go back to County Limerick & County Donegal with the O’Hanlon’s, Dougherty’s, Bulger’s and Kilroe’s. Some of his notable relatives were Virginia O’Hanlon, a young girl who asked the Sun Times about the existence of Santa Claus; another was George O’Hanlon, a screen & voice actor who was the original voice of George Jetson. His 6th Great Grandfather was John Hart of Flemington, N.J., a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
Shellman is a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the North Atlantic, Caribbean and Vietnam operating areas. After discharge, he was employed by AT&T as an Analyst, leaving after 18 years to pursue his own business, later returning to AT&T as a consultant. In addition to AT&T he worked with AON, Convergy’s, and most recently with Innov8 Computer Solutions, a Morris County based consulting firm.
Shellman worked many years with the youth of the community coaching baseball, basketball and football for close to 20 years. He was the co-founder of Tiger Athletics which provided competitive football & cheerleading. Ed served on the Recreation Commission, Chaired the Hackettstown Planning Board, and was a member of the Common Council. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2483, American Legion Post 164, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 282 and the Catholic War Veterans.
Recently retiring after almost 50 years in the working world, Shellman continues to serve as an Extraordinary Minister at the Church of the Assumption in Hackettstown. He represents the State K of C on the Veterans Administration Voluntary Services Board at the Lyons facility and on the Inter-faith Council of NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. More importantly he is the proud Grandfather of Matthew and Alina (parents Ed & Nadiya) and Cara and Kevin (parents Michael & Mary).
