HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – Drivers beware. Pothole season is here.
The extreme temperature swings recently have caused freezing and thawing that has cracked some streets in Hackettstown, creating large and small potholes that could be hazardous to vehicles.
The Hackettstown Department of Public Works has been fixing these potholes that have been plaguing drivers.
Crews Wednesday worked to fill potholes on East Ave between Mountain Ave and the Washington Township, Morris County border.
“We’re getting to the big potholes as fast as we can and then getting into the smaller ones,” Hackettstown Department of Public Works Superintendent Scott Armstrong said.
This time of year, it doesn’t take long to use up cold patch, since it’s a temporary fix that can easily come out during winter weather. It’s not unusual to fill the same pothole multiple times, Armstrong said.
Some potholes turn out to be more of a bigger project. On January 25, crews had to cut out part of the roadway on Grand Ave between Mountain View Drive and College View Ave to fix a pothole. Crews on Monday had to fix the same area again.
“On average we fill 50-75 potholes throughout Hackettstown,” Armstrong said.
